SEGWAY to introduce a smart personal transportation new SEGWAY i2 & x2

Segway announced a new line of its personal transporters that feature breakthrough LeanStee technology and a wireless InfoKey controller that enhance the Segway experience by making the ride even more intuitive and adding new and useful functions.

The line includes the versatile Segway i2 and a cross-terrain model called the Segway x2, as well as six product packages tailored to specific commercial and consumer market segments and riding environments.

With LeanSteer technology, all aspects of movement are controlled by the direction the rider moves his body. The i2 and x2 respond as the rider naturally leans in the direction he wants to travel, rather than using a handlebar grip for turning.

This new technology provides a more intuitive and fun riding experience that is easy to learn. Its advanced design and sophisticated software allow it to differentiate between the rider’s steering and changes in the terrain, keeping the rider in a stable and comfortable position when traveling over uneven ground.

Cellular Broadband

Using Wi-Fi around town is like panhandling. You schlep from coffee shop to coffee shop, looking for bandwidth handouts; or you rummage through the neighborhood airwaves, searching for unencrypted home networks.

Random routers may give you a crust of bread and such. But god bless the child who’s got his own always-on, high-speed connection from a cell phone company. Laptop data cards have been trying the patience of early adopters for years. But three US services now offer bona-fide broadband download speeds in the 400-to-700-kilobits-per-second range. Jump to read about the state of high speed cellular data.

Logitec’s WiFi Skype phone

Logitec’s getting into the WiFi Skype game and releasing their own me-too phone. Again, this Logitec is the Logitec of Japan, not the Logitech (with an H) of the US. Fortunately for Skype phone collectors like me, this is just an OEM of the Belkin Skype phone, but in white, like SMC’s OEM version.

The Skype phone will be available in Japan and uses either 802.11b or g to place its calls. The phone also supposedly has Bluetooth so you can hook this up as a handset for your computer, but we’re not sure how useful that feature will be. Read up on our thoughts on this model of Skype WiFi phone

PS3 GPU downgraded again

The Sony PS3′s GPU, previously running at 550MHz Core/700MHz memory, has been downgraded to 500MHz Core/650MHz memory. We don’t mean to crap on Sony’s cake all the time, but when their most powerful machine EVAR keeps losing its power, people start to notice.

In any case, if decreasing the specs will help get more units out by Christmas and avoid yet another Xbox 360-like shortage story, we’re all for it.

Cingular & TMobile to release hw6900?

hw6900

Well numerous people have been sending us info hourly and apparently what we are seeing is that the next Mobile Messenger will be model number hw6920/hw6925 w/wo camera through Cingular. Also HP has informed us that is in the final stages of confirming a combined release with T-Mobile also. We have seen HP do this repeatedly before but can this be the actual release? Either way TMobile customers should be excited.

Vista prices revealed!

It looks like Microsoft has accidentally leaked some details of the price of its next-generation operating system. At least for customers who live in the Great Frozen North.

The Canadian Microsoft retail pricing page had the various versions of Microsoft Vista listed along with their SKUs. It immediately got taken down, but not before they were recorded for the world to see. Here is the big ‘ole list. I busted out the abacus and converted all of the prices to USD. I’m such a nice guy.

Full Version•Vista Ultimate $450
•Vista Business $341
•Vista Home Premium $269
•Vista Home Basic $233
Upgrade Version
•Vista Ultimate Upgrade $269
•Vista Business Upgrade $224
•Vista Home Premium Upgrade $179
•Vista Home Basic Upgrade $116

In all reality the prices are pretty average. Sure the $450 standalone Ultimate version is a bit high, but most users will be buying upgrade versions, and $116 isn’t that bad for an entire operating system.

Constellation line by Vertu

Vertu is going to launch a line of slightly more affordable “luxury” cellphones sometime this fall, giving them the name Constellation. Three different cellphones will be released under the Constellation moniker, one covered in 18 karat gold (pictured here), and the other two in polished and satin steel. Luxury, baby!

The GSM/EDGE cellphones, aside from being gilded, are fairly standard: expect Bluetooth and USB support, but then again, I’m pretty sure that my toothbrush has Bluetooth now, so it’s really not that impressive.

While the Constellation cellphones are supposed to be more affordable, Vertu still hasn’t said how much they want for their utterly amazing luxury cellphones. Given the company’s history, though, affordable may be a bit of a misnomer.

Canon EF 70-200 mm F4L IS USM lens

The first of two new lenses from Canon is a image stabilized ‘version’ of the current EF 70-200 mm F4L. With this new stabilized lens Canon are boasting no less than 4 stops of stabilization (meaning you could use a shutter speed 4 stops/EVs slower than without it). Despite the addition of image stabilization the lens remains the same size as its non-stabilized sibling and is only slightly heavier. This lens should be available in November for $1250 (US).

Amstelveen, The Netherlands, 24 August, 2006: Canon today announces the EF 70-200mm f/4L IS USM, Canon’s first interchangeable lens with 4 stop Image Stabilizer. This allows hand held photography with no perceptible image blur at shutter speeds up to 4 steps slower than otherwise possible – ideal for low light shooting without tripod or flash.

Dust and moisture resistant, compact, manoeuvrable, and incorporating Canon’s finest standards of precision optics, Canon’s latest professional L-series lens is expected to be popular for travel, expedition and wildlife assignments where there is a requirement to travel light without compromising image quality.
