BenQ-Siemens Black Box Concept Phone

On the right is a concept cellphone from BenQ-Siemens. Dubbed the Black Box, this handset does not come with a keypad of any kind as it uses a touchscreen as a replacement instead. The user interface looks as if it can be accessed via a variety of icons with no text involved at all, making this a truly appealing phone universally which is capable of breaking the language barrier. The glossy finish reminds one of the beautiful LG Chocolate phone, but that would also mean the Black Box is a prime candidate for the “Fingerprint Magnet of the Year” award. Well, there’s always the Mogo cellphone cleaner to fall back upon if you want to get rid of all the oily prints.

Dell 3007WFP crazy setup

The Dell 3007WFP 30” wide screen LCD display is one of the most, if not the most awesome, computer monitor on the market. Its native resolution is 2560×1600 which is about 4 Million pixels (4 Megapixel). In monitor real estate, that’s the equivalent to three 1280×1024 pixels 17” displays. The 3007WFP competes directly with Apple’s 30” Cinema Display and has several advantages over it: It has better brightness and contrast, weighs a bit less, has a warranty three times as long, and a slightly cheaper price. 4 Megapixel is cool but 8 Megapixel is twice as cool, right? We’ll tell you what we think of the Dell 3007 WFP and how we used it as the centerpiece of our 4960×1600 pixels windows desktop.

Oceanic SCUBA Mask with Integrated Head-Up Display

Here’s a great idea for SCUBA divers: a mask with a tiny LCD panel that shows your depth, time you’ve been under the water and cylinder pressure. The transmitter gathers the data at the regulator and sends it to this mini display mounted right where you need it.

Sometimes if you’re diving really deep it might be too dark or murky to see those vital statistics. It’s probably just as useful as the excellent head-up display (HUD) on the Corvette, and if the concept works well enough at 180mph, it’ll certainly suffice while loitering a few hundred feet under the sea, not far from Davy Jones Locker. Take it with you on your trip to the Bahamas this winter.

Info rings save us from hassle of human interaction

You gotta love technology designed to remove as much human interaction as possible from our days, moving us closer and closer to the dream of everyone existing in private spheres, completely cut off from any legitimate human contact. Designed by Hideaki Matsui, these Information Rings might not save us from human contact, but they’ll at least make interactions much shorter and less necessary. Each of the rings stores the wearer’s personal information, so when a handshake puts two rings close together they exchange the stored info, making small talk and introductions unnecessary. All you need to do is shake hands, then you can study up on your new “friend” later at your convenience. To be fair, I’m being overly dramatic and this could be a cool way to replace business cards, but I just shudder at the thought of technology moving in to replace human interactions rather than enhance them. In any case, this guy is a concept at the moment, so you won’t be seeing anyone doing their introductions through rings anytime soon

Hasselblad H3D DSLR: 39 Megapixels, Lunar Price

Hasselblad unveiled its next masterpiece, the Hasselblad H3D, a digital SLR camera to be offered in 22-megapixel and 39-megapixel trim. Inside are some relatively gargantuan image sensors, the largest ones in the world at 48x36mm. But you’d better have plenty of storage on hand—the dimensions of that 39-megapixel frame are 5412×7212 pixels, filling up well over 110MB per pic.

Bring plenty of money, too, because the price of this camera, made by the company whose cameras were the first on the moon, will be almost enough to finance your own personal moonshot. No word on exact pricing, but if the past is prologue, it’ll be somewhere upwards of $30K to $40K
