Casio XJ-S30 Ultra-Slim DLP Projector

Casio has unveiled their ultra-slim XJ-S30 DLP projector. This projector (pictured on top, for size comparison) measures in at 1.25 inches. The other standout features include the option to receive data via Wi-Fi or directly from USB. It has a 2,000 lumens brightness rating and a measly resolution of 1024×768, which would be good for Powerpoint or showing that slideshow to grandma, but not so much for video or gaming.

The Camera Gun

Though it looks like it could blow a hole through a steel door, what you’re looking at is a 400mm picture camera from Leica. Dubbed the Leica Gun, it’s part of a rare camera auction taking place on January 28th through Tamarkin Photographica and eBay Live Auctions. While it looks like it can scare the pants off of the meanest DSLR out there, I can’t imagine you’d have much luck getting your subjects to sit still when shooting with it.

Top 10 Wired Colleges

PC Mag has teamed up with the Princeton Review and figured out the techno-pecking order of universities, citing the Top 10 Wired Colleges in the United States. There are lots of reasons to pick out a school, such as male-to-female ratio, reputation for serious partying, and oh yeah, there’s that academic thing. But then there’s that all-important network infrastructure.

They didn’t just measure download and upload speed, either. Sure, infrastructure had something to do with it, but the surveys and studies also considered whether professors posted course materials online, what kind of computer training was available, and what sorts of distance learning and high-tech courses were offered. Plus, they’ve figured in whether the school allows peer-to-peer (cough!bittorrent!cough) connections. How did the schools stack up? We’ll go 10 better: jump for the top 20.

Inside the Wiimote Part Deux

Anyone can cut a Wiimote into pieces. But can they interview the musically-named Benedetto Vigna about MEMS units? I don’t think so. That’s where we need the New York Times.

Michel Marriott, the Ponce De Leon of controller exploration, discusses how Bluetooth, IR, and tiny accelerometers all work together to make Link ride around on a horse.

Domus Design DS-220 Chair

Recliners are wondrous pieces of furniture, offering great comfort while often sacrificing clean, modern looks. The Domus Design DS-255 Chair ($4700-$9700) is extremely pricey, but is one of the best looking recliners we’ve ever seen. Its clean lines can be covered in leather, synthetic suede, or fabric, and its skillfully-concealed footrest only adds to its appeal. Simply put, it’s a perfect piece to add to your home theater room.
