Sony PSP Firmware Update Gives You Remote Play from PS3

Sony’s PlayStation portable (PSP) now has a new version 3.50 firmware update available, letting you access music, pictures and videos on a Sony PlayStation 3 from a PSP wirelessly connected to the Internet. When Sony upgraded its PS3 firmware to version 1.80 last week, one of its key features was Remote Play, giving you media streaming over a network, but the missing link was the ability to receive that content.

In this PSP firmware update, Sony also threw in a RSS Channel Guide for those newbies not familiar with that concept, but the real deal here is that Remote Play trick. It’s a bit of a misnomer because it won’t let you play any PS3 games remotely on a PSP. Own both devices? Now you can go all-Sony, all the time. Fanboy.

Fujitsu Dresses its Fab PC Concept in Fabric

Why make a leather notebook when you can make one out of fabric? That seems to be what the designers at Fujitsu are thinking. Their Fab PC concept is a laptop made from fabric with a flexible e-paper display that makes this lappie easy to fold up and take on the road. The fabric also makes the laptop ultra-light and ultra-rugged (you’ll never have to worry about dropping this notebook on concrete). No word on when we’ll see a working version of the notebook, but we can only hope.

Dell’s Overclocked XPS 720

It’s a good thing Dell’s new XPS 720 H2C has some serious cooling going on ’cause otherwise this thing would explode. Not only does it come with an overclocked CPU (up to a 3.73GHz QX6800), but it also has overclocked memory modules and a dual 8800 GTX setup. It’s essentially a big brother to the XPS 710 we saw back at CES. Pricing starts at $5,999. Full specs after the jump.

Smoking Jacket catches smoke, darkens symbolic lungs

We’ve seen jackets that alert you when approaching uncomfortable scenarios, light up on demand, and track the poor soul trapped within, but Fiona Carswell’s iteration does a number on smokers who don’t mind warning labels. Similar in craftiness to the Ruyan e-cigarette, the Smoking Jacket sports a stylish white exterior with a pair of symbolic lungs and a sophisticated internal tubing system. The aptly-dubbed “visceral, absurd information displays” morph from pristine air containers to dark, murky caverns as smokers blow excess smoke into a tube located in the collar. The one-way air valve traps smoke in the lungs, creating a relatively repulsive sight in the eyes of both onlookers and smokers alike. Of course, Fiona can’t promise that such a dramatic effort will faze the hardcore puffers, but trying to continually ignore the disgusted faces looking your way as you walk by would be challenging indeed.

DViCO’s TViX M-5100SH offers 1080p, HDMI, and H.264 decoding

Seems like only yesterday — ok, 4 days ago — we were telling you about the DViCO M-4000SA HD media player. Now they’re back with the M-5100SH which bests the former with 1080p support, HDMI output, and H.264 decoding. It still packs Ethernet for plenty of in-home media streaming and of course DViCO will be more than happy to throw in a 3.5-inch, 512GB SATA disk for a fee. But why not save some bills-per-byte and double your capacity with a 1TB Hitachi disk purchased elsewhere. You can also add WiFi and an optional ATSC tuner to create a full-featured 1080i video recorder. Decent but standard stuff so far; what’s odd is the pricing. The cylindrical M-5100SH is only available for pre-order and will cost $439 when it ships next month in Japan and presumably parts beyond. Meanwhile, the boxy M-4100SH offers all the same features as the M-5100SH yet costs only $359. Oh, and it’s available domestically now. Of course, black MacBook owners already know the premium paid for aesthetics. Peep the M-4100SH slab after the break.

Electronic Roll-up Go Board

Go may not be very popular here in the US, but that didn’t stop me from actually taking a few lessons when I was a kid (ladies, quit knocking down my door). Plus, it didn’t stop this guy from designing an electronic roll-up Go board.

Shaped like a roll of parchment when contracted, the Go board rolls out to show the black and white pieces with what looks like e-ink. That’s a fantastic idea, which could be extended to chess, checkers or Chinese checkers.
